Catálogo de los fitoácaros de la Isla de la Juventud

Abstract
A catalogue of mites detected and related host plants in Isla de la Juventud is offered for the first time. Data were obtained from records registered by Plant Health Laboratory in this island from 1976 to 2003, the Acari collections of Plant Health Research Institute (INISAV) and collects made by specialist from Central Laboratory of Plant Quarantine (LCCV) during a technical visit in June 2005. Twenty one species of mites, fifteen phytophagous and three predators were detected. Main pests detected were Aceria tulipae on garlic, Polyphagotarsonemus latus on potato, Steneotarsonemus spinki on rice, Phyllocoptruta oleivora, Panonychus citri and Tetranychus urticae on citrus. The presence of Bdella distinta Baker and Balock was observed as a new record for the country.
