Beans (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.) and Lettuce ((Lactuca sativa, L.), new hosts of the species Tomato chlorotic spot virus in Cuba

Abstract
Among the viral diseases considered as emerging worldwide, those included in the genus Orthotospovirus, occupy a growing interest among researchers dedicated to phytovirology, due, among other properties, to its wide range of hosts. In 2015, the presence of Tomato chlorotic spot virus (TCSV), belonging to the mentioned genus, was reported for the first time in Cuba. This virus have been detected in many territories of the country affecting tomato and pepper crops cultivated in open fields and in greenhouses. Due to the national distribution of TCSV, the objective of this research was the identification of other horticultural crops, of high consumption by the Cuban population, that could also be infected by this viral species, and constitute alternative foci of infection. In Havana, Cienfuegos and Guantánamo provinces, symptoms in beans and lettuce were observed, which consisted of leaf deformations and necrosis, respectively. To confirm the presence of Orthotospovirus, samples were mechanically inoculated on indicator plants and the presence of Orthotospovirus and TSCV were confirmed by RT-PCR, by genus generic and specie specific primers. The diagnostic techniques employed corroborated the presence of the genus and of the TCSV species on analyzed samples. This is the first report of the presence in Cuba of beans and lettuce plants infected with TCSV.
