Biología reproductiva de Dichrostachys cinerea (l.) Wight & arn. (marabú). (i) Evaluación de reproducción por semillas

Abstract
Dichrostachys cinerea (L.) Wight & Arn. (sicklebush) is at the moment one of the most invasive Cuban weeds. The loss of natural and cattle lands by the invasion and establishment of this woody species has reached alarming proportions. The evaluation of reproductive characteristics of this species by seeds both in laboratory and field conditions has been the objective of this work. Seeds were collected from a population of D. cinerea located near Havana, to evaluate percentage and energy or germination speed or emergency in laboratory and field conditions, in Plant Heath Research Institute. Marabú seeds presented a germination and poliembryony respectively superior to 70% and 30% in laboratory conditions, with double, triple and quadruple poliembryony, and a germinative energy equal to five days. Maximum values of emergency were obtained when seeding was made superficially and the greater germinative energy was obtained in 5 cm of depth seeded at rainy time under field conditions, reproductive capacity is lost in depths superior to 15 cm.
