In vitro effect of VersaKlin® against Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid & White) Chitwood and screening of hydrolytic enzymes
Main Article Content
Abstract
VersaKlin® is a commercial product based on Efficient Microorganisms TM technology that could be considered its use as a biological control agent for certain agricultural pests. The nematode Meloidogyne incognita constitutes a pest of great economic importance in organic farms and greenhouses in Cuba, reason why VersaKlin® could be another alternative for the biocontrol of this phytoparasite. The objectives of this work were to determinate the antagonistic activity on M. incognita under in vitro conditions and to conventionally detect the enzymes amylase, lipase, gelatinase, chitinase and caseinase. Different concentrations of the product were tested on egg masses of the phytonematode the inhibition of hatching at 24, 48, 72 and 120 h of exposure, its effect on the mobility of the juveniles of the second stage (J) emerged and the irreversibility; in addition, five culture media were used for qualitative enzymatic determination in the pure and filtered product. The concentrations evaluated (pure, 1:10 and 1:20) achieved the reduction of the hatching of the eggs, from 24 h, with values greater than 70 % and with a 50 % affectation in the mobility of the J, both effects, irreversibly. The presence of chitinase and caseinase enzymes was also detected in the filtrate of the product, results that demonstrate the potential for nematode control and its use for studies under controlled conditions.
