Aplicación de marcadores bioquímicos y moleculares en el estudio de poblaciones de Phytophthora infestans (mont.) de bary causante del tizón tardío en papa y tomate

Abstract
The importance of Phytophthora genera is transcendental for humanity as for the development of Plant Pathology Science. Since the first report of potato late blair epidemic caused by Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary which dates from 1845 –when it devastated plantations of this Solanacea in the west of Europe, with a greater impact in Ireland– to the present, the disease has caused severe damages anywhere in the world. This review shows taxonomic and biological aspects, and results of populations studies in different countries and continents, realized with the aid of updated tools as Molecular Biology. Important profits have been obtained in explaining the origin of these pathogen populations, as well as theorizing about different migrations in the whole planet, and in the knowledge of the populations structures in diverse geographic regions. The history of the disease in Cuba and P. nicotianae detection in potato areas since 1993 is treated in the document. It concludes with the requirement to make genetic studies in order to obtain the knowledge of this fungus origin sources in Cuba.
