Efecto in vitro de extractos de plantas sobre especies bacterianas del género Xanthomonas

Abstract
Diverse plant extracts possess bactericidal effect with promissory possibilities to the control of plant diseases. The effect of methanolic extracts of leaves and stems of Bixa orellana, Gliricidia sepium, Ocimun basilicum and Petiveria alliacea was studied in vitro against 14 isolations of Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. vesicatoria (4), Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (1), Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. Manihotis (1), Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. malvacearum (1) and Xanthomonas sp. (7). The method of double agar layer and disks impregnated with 12.5% (h/v) extracts was used; they were placed on the surface of the higher layer of media and inoculated with the bacterial suspension. The extract of Bixa orellana was effective for 92.8% of the studied isolates, only the isolate of X. axonopodis pv. malvacearum did not show sensibility. The inhibition halos oscillated between 17 and 21 mm of diameter. The remaining extracts did not show effect on the studied bacteria.
