Especies del género frankliniella karny en Cuba. Resultados de la encuesta de detección de especies peligrosas de trips en el período 1998-2000

Abstract
Frankliniella Karny genus includes several species of economic importance for Cuban Agriculture, not only because for the polyphagous habits that most of them exhibit, but also because of their capability to transmit several viral diseases, such as TSWV and other Tospoviruses. In the light of this, as well as for the frequent detection of Frankliniella occidentalis (Perg.) in products from several origins, the National Plant Quarantine Service oriented the implementation of a detection survey, which had as a main goal the inspection of pest risk establishment areas. The diagnostic work of the samples obtained as part of the survey during the period 1998-2000 is summarized. Results revealed the existence of 10 species within the Frankliniella genus and a host range that includes 37 plant species, among which several are of economic importance. Most frequently detected species were: F. williamsi, F. insularis, and F. cephalica, while F. insularis is defined as the species of broader host range (20). F. shultzei and F. fusca showed a very low detection frequency and their presence is confined only to La Habana and Ciudad de La Habana provinces. Most nationally distributed species was Frankliniella williamsi Hood. Various associations were registered between different Frankliniella species and also between Frankliniella spp. and species belonging to other genera in eight of the inspected crops. The study allowed to confirm that Frankliniella occidentalis Perg. so far is not present in the national territory.
