Hirsutella sp., un nuevo parásito para el ácaro schizotetranychus elymus (acari:tetranychidae) en el cultivo del arroz

Abstract
Mites of the genera Schizotetranychus are associated with grass plants in many parts of the world. S. lymus McGregor is a common phytophagous on Cuban rice crop, with the presence of large populations in certain times of the year that may cause considerable damages to the cereal. The observation of the fungus Hirsutella sp infecting the mites during the months of October and November of 1997 in Madruga and La Coca rice fields, in Havana province, as well as the determination of their level of parasitism, in many cases higher than 50%, allowed considering it as an important biological control. That constitutes the first report of a pathogen fungus of this arachnid under Cuban conditions. The existence of about 100 eggs and 30 specimens of S. elymus for cm2 in the sheet of many leaves was also observed, many of them were strongly damaged, mainly in those cases where the parasitism for Hirsutella sp was absent.
