Evaluación de poblaciones de trips Fulmekiola serrata (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) en plantaciones de caña de azúcar en Villa Clara, Cuba
Main Article Content
Abstract
Severe damages caused by Thrips Fulmekiola serrata ([Kobus 1893] were observed in young plantations of some sugarcane cultivars in different locations of Villa Clara province. The populations of F. serrata were evaluated in the cultivars C85-102, C86-12, C86-56, Ja64-11, B7274, planted on September 2012 and in the cultivar C86-12 in a ratoon stage harvested in January 2012 were evaluated. The F. serrata populations were greater in plant cane at three or four months of age, in January and February, while they were lesser in ratoon crop harvested in January at two or three months of age. The rate number of thrips per cane top from January to May in plant cane was 15 and greater in January with a rate of 37. The percentage of infested plants was over 50 %, showing its wide distribution in the field. The scarce precipitations of November to January, it is considered the climatic condition that more favored the development of the populations, on the other hand these diminished with the increment of the age of the plants. These results are the first published regarding the trips presence in Cuba and they are the starting point for future investigations.
