Microcephalothrips abdominalis (Crawford) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) in potato crop (Solanum tuberosum L.) in Cuba
Main Article Content
Abstract
In potato crop different insects are presented that constitute pests, among those that are the trips. Some species are of economic importance for what the heedfulness in areas of crops is frequently carried out. They were carried out samplings in locality of Güira de Melena, Güines and San José de las Lajas, in the province of Artemisa and Mayabeque during the period 2017-2019. The insects collected in the field were transferred to the laboratory of Entomology of the Plant Health Research Institute, to carry out it description and identification of the species. The results showed the presence of Microcephalothrips abdominalis (Craw- ford) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae). This species was found in leaves and flowers in potato crop, in San José de las Lajas and in leaves in Güira de Melena and Güines, which constitutes a new report for the crop in Cuba. M. abdominalis is a cosmopolitan species of thrips that causes direct damage to different crops, and it is also vector of viral diseases Tobacco streak virus (TSV).
