Pre-conditioning treatments in bean seeds for inducing tolerance to Fusarium oxysporum
Main Article Content
Abstract
Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), considered as a dry grain legume, presents problems of diseases produced especially by fungi, for that reason it is necessary to look for alternatives of tolerance to the pathogens. The priming is a preconditioning of the seeds that, depending on the chemical used, shows favorable results to tolerate abiotic and biotic factors. The objective was to show that seed priming, var. Caballero and var. Canario, induces tolerance to Fusarium oxysporum. CaCl2, CaS04 and NaCl salts were tested at concentrations of 25, 50 and 100 mM respectively, in a completely randomized design with three replicates of 50 seeds each. The results showed that the tolerance is induced by CaSO4 at 100 mM with germination potential of 82 % for var. Caballero and 92 % for var. Canario, followed by CaCl2 (100 mM) with 80 % for var. Caballero and 82 % to var. Canario , applying Tukey (p < 0.05), CaSO4, (100 mM), for both varieties, is statistically the best inducer of tolerance to the pathogen attack. In conclusion, CaSO4 and CaCl2 generate tolerance to F. oxysporum in both bean varieties, it is not advisable to use NaCl as a priming.
