Este estudio se llevó a cabo con el objetivo de evaluar el daño que provoca R. decollata al cultivo de acelga en la UBPC Organopónico Vivero Alamar. Se evaluó la densidad poblacional y para ello se utilizó el método de Andrews (1987) modificado, se seleccionaron tres canteros tecnificados, donde se distribuyó regularmente 16 veces un marco de madera de 25 x 25 cm. Los datos de densidad poblacional fueron transformados a Log (n + 1) e introducidos en el programa R. Se desarrolló un análisis de regresión múltiple con el uso del modelo GAM (Generalized Additive Models) ajustado; los árboles de regresión fueron sometidos a una validación cruzada para definir el mejor. El caracol R. decollata selecciona las cuatro hojas más bajas del vegetal y provocó un 9 % de incidencia, y el daño comenzó cuando la temperatura estuvo entre 25-34 °C, la humedad relativa entre 71-74 % y las densidades poblacionales estuvieron entre 4-7 caracoles/m2. A partir de los resultados de esta investigación se puede afirmar que R. decollata es una plaga ocasional. Esta es una de las razones por lo cual no se ha podido cuantificar los daños ocasionados por esta especie en el mundo. Among the mollusc species that most affect the cultivation of chard in Cuba is the snail Rumina decollata L., reported as a pest of importance by several authors, although without quantitative evidence. This study was carried out with the objective of assessing the damage caused by R. decollata to chard crop in the UBPC Organopónico Vivero Alamar. The population density was evaluated and for this the modified Andrews (1987) method was used, three technified canteros were selected, whe- re a wooden frame of 25 x 25 cm was regularly distributed 16 times; Population density data were transformed to Log (n + 1) and entered into the R program. From the results of this research it can be affirmed that R. decollata is an occasional plague. This is one of the reasons why it has not been possible to quantify the damages caused by this species in the world.
