The objective of this research was to evaluate the relationship between design and management of three crops systems and diversity of functional groups of edaphic fauna. The study was conducted in the Basic Unit of Cooperative Production (UBPC) July 1, in the municipality Cerro in Havana province, during the period October 2010 to April 2011. Three cropping systems were characterized (typical plots, organoponic and orchard intensive) and six evaluations were performed on each, for which bimonthly samplings at the level of a diagonal transect in three seasons, where was removed 1 kg of soil to a depth of 10 cm. The complexity of the design and management of cropping systems likewise the composition, abundance and diversity of the functional groups of edaphic fauna it was determined. In typical plots was reached the greater complexity of design and management, mainly supported by higher levels of floristic diversification, crop associations, permanent crops, cover crops, vegetable arrope, living fences, reservoirs of natural enemies, repellent plants and semi-natural environments. Registered organisms are grouped into the Phylum: Arthropoda, Mollusca, Annelida and Chordata, being the most abundant arthropods with 1344 individuals. In the system typical plots was obtained the greatest diversity of soil macrofauna (1.63) and the highest values of abundance (1576 individuals). Besides, It was recorded the greatest wealth of families of insects (Formicidae, Carabidae, Staphylinidae, Forficulidae, Coccinellidae) with important ecological functions, of which the ants had the highest population levels.</dc:description>
