	<dc:description xml:lang="es">En Cuba la familia Thripidae reviste gran importancia porque agrupa especies polífagas que causan daños directos e indirectos a los cultivos. Dentro de esta familia se ubica el género Scirtothrips, que se caracteriza por alimentarse de brotes jóvenes, provoca la atrofia de las plantas y algunas especies son vectores de virus en cultivos de interés económico. Para determinar el agente causal de los daños observados en plantas de cítricos en los aisladores de diagnóstico y de Rosa spp. en los jardines del Instituto de Investigaciones en Fruticultura Tropical, se recolectaron muestras sintomáticas de brotes jóvenes. Las muestras fueron analizadas en el Laboratorio de Entomología y separadas en placas Petri identificadas. Los individuos adultos recolectados fueron conservados en alcohol 75 % y posteriormente montados según la metodología de Kumar et al. (2011) para su estudio taxonómico. Para la identificación de los ejemplares se compararon las descripciones e ilustraciones de Hoddel &amp;amp; Mound (2003), Skarlinsky (2004) y Kumar et al. (2010, 2011). Se observó la presencia de ninfas y adultos de una especie de thrips de color amarillo pálido con alas de coloración oscura. Los resultados de las observaciones de la especie estudiada muestran que los caracteres descritos corresponden a un adulto Scirtothrips dorsalis Hood.</dc:description>
	<dc:description xml:lang="en">In Cuba the Thripidae family is of great importance because it groups polyphagous species that cause direct and indirect damage to crops. Within this family is located the genus Scirtothrips which is characterized by feeding on young shoots, causes atrophy of plants and some species are vectors of viruses in crops of economic interest. To determine the causal agent of the damages observed in citrus plants in the diagnostic greenhouse and Rosa spp. In the gardens of the Tropical Fruit Research Institute, symptomatic samples of young shoots were collected. The collected adult individuals were preserved in 75 % alcohol and later assembled according to the methodology of Kumar et al. (2011) for taxonomic study For the identification of the specimens, the descriptions and illustrations of Hoddel &amp;amp; Mound (2003), Skarlinsky (2004) and Kumar et al. (2010, 2011) were compared. The presence of nymphs and adults of a species of thrips of pale yellow color with wings of dark coloration was observed. The results of the observations of the species studied show that the characters described correspond to an adult Scirtothrips dorsalis Hood.</dc:description>
